The broken links of the west is one of my own favorite topics to read and contemplate about. The west today is entirely nihilist and materialistic, people do not believe in anything anymore, we only purchase things and strive for more physical pleasures. Anything that resembles depth or spirituality is mocked instantly, unless it is from a far away region or a religion of a priviligied minority group, the rest is simply nonsense for the modern westerner. We think we do not need any gods or superstitions anymore, as we are now enlightened we do not need anything that science and “reason” hasent already given us. We have entertainment, infotainment, Igadgets, shopping, facebook, anti-depressants, internet porn, oxicontine, binge-drinking, more shopping, recreational drugs, sex, even more shopping, celebrity worhip et cetera to keep us happy right?
Carl Gustav Jung the psykoanalyst who wrote a lot about symbols and their influence on us and the collective subconcious which was his favorite topic.
As scientific understanding has grown, so our world has become dehumanized. Man feels himself isolated in the cosmos, because he is no longer involved with nature and has lost his emotional “unconscious identity” with natural phenomena
He had a strain of bitterness in his words when he talks about the west and the comparison with the east. In many ways he could be called an anti-modernist sporting qoutes like this.
Anthropologists have often described what happens to a primitive society when its spiritual values are exposed to the impact of modern civilization. Its people lose the meaning of their lives, their social organization disintegrates, and they themselves morally decay. We are now in the same condition.
In short and plainly we shop, fuck, drug ourselves and are desperatly trying to distract ourselves from our lives til the day we die and this is the lifestyle we have exported to people all around the world. So how do westerners cope to this emptiness we have created? Well….by copying other peoples cultures in hope of finding something genuine and “real”, and here is the result…
Hi there white muslim guy!

I do understand these people looking for something beyond the hollow culture we reside in, I just get amused that they have to search so far away to find their roots, their belonging.
CG Jung wrote this;
…in London or New York…if anyone claims to have seen a vision…he is mentally distrubed. we read the myths of the ancients Greeks…or the stories of American Indians, but we fail to see the connection…
